THE GEORGE C. MARSHALL FOUNDATION conducts many educational and outreach programs which strengthen the Foundation's mission of extending the legacy of George Catlett Marshall.

The Foundation accomplishes its mission by conducting programs of contemporary service to our nation and the international community on the military, statesmanship, and citizenship levels.  These programs are supported by our research library and museum functions.  Further information is available from the Vice President for Programs or through the links listed below.

Research and Scholarly Programs

The Marshall Foundation promotes primary research and study as the cornerstone of our library and archives, and educational programs.

  • The Marshall Undergraduate Scholars Program gives undergraduate students at selected Virginia and Mid-Atlantic colleges an opportunity to do research and writing using primary materials. The Scholar may choose any subject involving 20th-century diplomatic and military history or political affairs from 1898 to 1960--the approximate dates of George C. Marshall's public service.
  • The George C. Marshall/Baruch Fellowships are given to encourage doctoral or postdoctoral research in 20th-century U.S. military or diplomatic history and related fields. The fellowships are administered by the George C. Marshall Foundation – a non- profit, non-governmental institution – and generated from a gift provided annually by the Baruch Family Foundation of Encino, California. The fellowships honor the career of George C. Marshall, 20th-century soldier-statesman, and the Baruch family. Application Form

K-12 Teaching Programs and Resources
The George C. Marshall Foundation wants to assist K-12 educators who teach about the Marshall era by providing them with pertinent information and resources.

  • The George C. Marshall: A Hero for All Times is a 56-page coloring book including text and quotations about George C. Marshall. All the drawings are rendered from actual historical events during Marshall's lifetime. A detailed chronology and introduction are included to depict a biographical summary of Marshall and his many accomplishments.
  • The Foundation's Museum Gift Shop has a number of teacher aids dealing with World War II, D-Day, and the Cold War as well as books on Marshall and other leaders of the 20th Century.  School group tours are encouraged, and can be coordinated through the Lexington, Virginia Visitor Center

Military Programs

The Marshall Foundation conducts programs and projects with the support of outside agencies such as the Department of the Army and the Department of the Air Force.  These programs include the Army and Air Force ROTC Award Seminars on National Security, and the Army Junior ROTC Leadership Award Symposium.
