General Gillem speaks of his early meetings with General Marshall at the Infantry School at Ft. Benning, Ga. He relates his time in Europe during WWII and his chairmanship of the “Board for Utilization of Negro Manpower” (Gillem Board) after the war. The bulk of the interview details Gillem’s assignment with General Marshall during the China mediation mission. He emphatically states that he did not know the details of the mission. He did speak, however, of Marshall’s dismay in not resolving the situation there between the Nationalists and the Communists.
