Whiting talks of his military training at Plattsburg, New York, where he became acquainted with Teddy Roosevelt. During World War I, he became the Chief Personnel Officer of US Forces in France. While in France, he met Marshall and Pershing. He talks about his involvement in the peace conference. He later knew Marshall in Chicago when Marshall was with the Illinois National Guard. He talks about knowing Col. Robert McCormick and McCormick’s attacks on Marshall.
