Hugh Harvey Collection
Born in McComb, Mississippi in 1924, Hugh Harvey spent two semesters at the Army Specialized Training Program in Ypsilanti, Michigan with additional graduate studies at the Agriculture Department in Washington, D.C. In 1943 he started basic training at Camp Wolters, Texas and served in the First Battalion of the 318th Infantry Regiment of the 80th Division. In Germany in the fall of 1944 he was wounded in the leg, received treatment, but eventually lost the leg in 1947.
This collection contains an 11 page, typed narrative “Excerpts from ‘My Story'” that he wrote for his grandchildren as a chronicle of his war experiences.
