The document is a letter from George Marshall to Major Chynoweth. In the letter Marshall describes the culminating day of a school exercise. Marshall notes numerous aspects of the exercise including the use of smoke screens, presence of artillery, the use of tanks and trucks, as well as the presence of night operations. It should be noted that Marshall introduced ideas of night operations and the use of combined-arms and smoke screens to the school’s demonstrations.
