Date: January 30, 1931

Subject: Interwar

A letter from Major William Livesay, formerly posted at the Infantry School, to George Marshall. In the letter Livesay points out observations of the school and its application in the regular army. Livesay points out the published problems from the school greatly helped with training troops. Livesay does point out some flaws of the school, notably the insufficient training in marksmanship. Marshall placed less emphasis on skills such as marksmanship at the school and instead sought to challenge the student’s intellect with complex field problems and lessons in strategy and tactics.
