31.10.27 Memorandum for the Adjutant General from War Department

Date: October 27, 1931

Subject: Interwar

A memorandum, the document is a letter from the Assistant Chief of Staff to the Adjutant General to be forwarded to the Chief of the Infantry. The memorandum outlines the plan for the Tank School to not only be moved for Fort Benning, but that the regulations governing the schools be combined to make the administration of Tank School fall directly in the jurisdiction of the Infantry School staff. The letter illustrates the culmination of the idea of mechanized war being taught at the Infantry School, an idea that Marshall first introduced to Fort Benning. The combination of the Tank School and the Infantry School created a hallmark of Marshall’s legacy of introducing the School to the technologies of modern mechanized warfare.
