The document is a letter from George C. Marshall to Mr. Frederick M. Ayers. The letter is personal in nature, however it shows three important aspects of Marshall’s tenure at Benning. In the letter Marshall writes about his morning horseback rides, as well as, attendance of a polo match at Fort Benning. While at Benning, Marshall placed a higher emphasis within the curriculum on horseback riding and the sport of Polo. Marshall also discusses attending a lecture on combat experience by a German officer. Marshall introduced the idea of World War I veteran’s lecturing at the school on battlefield leadership.
