To General Douglas MacArthur
March 10, 1944 Radio No. 5073 Washington, D.C.
Personal for MacArthur from Marshall.
Admiral King has formally called my attention to the communique of March 1st from your headquarters in which reference is made to the uniting of the Southwest Pacific area and the South Pacific area, as follows: “were united under General MacArthur’s command” on June 29th [26th], 1943. The communique evidently was intended to refer to the placement of the operations of both the Southwest Pacific and South Pacific forces under your direction, rather than the consolidation of the South and Southwest Pacific commands. I have so assured Admiral King.1
