First Rice Harvest on Reclaimed Fields Near Anthele

With modern drainage and irrigation techniques, 250,000 acres of Greek swampland are being reclaimed for rice production. The first tests were made in Anthele, a village not far from Lamia in the Sperchio River Delta, central Greece. They proved highly successful. The new fields produced about 82 bushels per acre for the first harvest.
