George C. Marshall helped to shape the course of world events during a distinguished career that covered the first half of the 20th century. The George C. Marshall Foundation Award and the George C. Marshall Foundation Humanitarian Award celebration brought together foreign and U.S. dignitaries, government officials, business leaders, friends and trustees of the Marshall Foundation, and special guests to honor former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and philanthropist David Rubenstein of The Carlyle Group.
Dr. Albright was recognized for her career of distinguished public service in the tradition of George C. Marshall, for her dignity and integrity, for her devotion to free and democratic institutions, and for promoting the economic development which allows these institutions to flourish. Mr. Rubenstein was recognized for his philanthropic support of educational initiatives in the D.C. public schools, at Duke University, and at other institutions of higher learning, as well as for his tireless efforts to preserve and render more accessible the history of our republic.

This black-tie gala event was held on November 11, 2019, at the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC.
