The George C. Marshall Foundation hosted a specialized, week-long professional development seminar for secondary school teachers in Lexington, Virginia, June 25 to 30, 2023. The George C. Marshall Foundation Teachers Institute focused on practical aspects of teaching twentieth century U.S. history, with special emphasis on the Marshall Plan and the early Cold War era. Over a dozen attendees finished the week with a portfolio of lesson plans for the 2023–24 school year.
Speakers included Dr. Benn Steil, senior fellow and director of international economics at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, and Dr. Seth Rotramel, historian at the Office of the Historian, U.S. Department of State.
Below are photos taken during the seminar. The George C. Marshall Foundation thanks all of its Teachers Institute participants, especially Dr. Bradley Coleman and Ms. Amanda Conway, whose work made it all possible. We look forward to future seminars, and materials from this year’s Teachers Institute will soon be made available.
