The hostile Cavalry has fallen back to SAN JOSE. Has an officers’ patrol on SAN JOSE-IBAAN road. Your message to attack the BROWN Cavalry at the two bridges is therefore revoked. Instead you will select a concealed bivouac and bivouac (in advance) of our outpost line and strike the rear of any Cavalry. Rushing [sic] forward from SAN JOSE early tomorrow. Your orders for establishing the outposts of the Detachment tomorrow morning will be awaiting you at the two bridges.
